The distance of 140 km has been gone: 11 volunteers of Kherson Women Union have driven up to Kalynivska Specialized Comprehensive Boarding School. On 6 November 2019, for the first time in three years, we came to help children write their letters to Saint Nicholas.
They haven’t just written letters to St Nickolas, but “have dreamt” surprises for their close ones: parents, grannies and … caregivers!
55 girls and 91 boys that are being raised at Kalynivska Specialized Comprehensive Boarding School wrote letters to St Nickolas that day.
“It was especially exciting when children wrote letters that they would like to become St Nicholas’s assistants. And they consulted how to make surprises to their close people. But not only relatives, to caregivers as well”, told the Union’s Manager Liuba Ivashchenko.
According to her words, it was obvious that children love and value their caregivers. That is why they are turning to them.
To trust sacred to the paper
Around 150 dreams that were shared in the letters were different but all of them were sincere…
Clothes, toys, gadgets – all children are alike in it. But when a child is dreaming about red boots and red winter coat, warm hat as there’s going to be frost, that moment you start to understand how fast they become adults there.
One of the boys wrote that he his dream was for St Nickolas to present him trainers, and a TV set for the whole group. As he cared about everyone!
One of the girls’ letters allowed nobody to stay indifferent. She wrote to St Nickolas that her dearest dream was to have 10 pens, 50 exercise-books and a big notebook, which would help her study well and find a job.
Be careful, the Givers! One of small girl-dreamers wants a tracksuit, which St Nickolas is going to buy according to our Manager Liuba’s taste, and she is the girl with great flair!
A fairy-tale about St Nickolas – a strong faith in people
Do children really believe in St Nickolas? Yes, the do! They have been waiting for him all the year round. But though the younger residents of Kalynivka can tell how this kind old fellow looks like, where he lives, when he comes and what he presents, the teenagers start smiling, as they have already understood that the pre- New Year fairy-tale for them is created by people.
But as the elder children stated, they would do a pleasant deed to that person who would agree to make their dreams come true (we mentioned above the people to whom they would like to make surprises – editor).
And exactly this moment you start to understand that “I am Saint Nickolas!” is not only about presents, but about the highest human values, believe in good and in people, and in hope that you are really needed to someone.
We will make public the electronic base of children’s dreams soon.
And we know that thanks to all of us all dreams will be fulfilled for sure!
