Reconstruction of Swan`s Lake. Just do it!
Press-conference, dedicated to the presentation of Swan’s Lake reconstruction in the city of Kherson, took part in Kherson Theater named after Mykola Kulish on March 14th, 2018. The meeting was attended by architectures, journalists, designers, representatives of civil organizations, businessmen and deputies.
At the beginning of the conference, Valerii Borzhkov (the initiator of the election contest for the best conceptual idea of the reconstruction of civil locations of Kherson, Deputy of Kherson City Council) told about the stages that have already been gone in the reconstruction of the Lake. Flyers with their check-list were printed with the illustrative purpose. The stages are as follows:
WHAT HAVE ALREADY BEEN DONE
THE DESIGNING ESTIMATE OF THE PROJECT IS BEING DEVELOPED AT THE MOMENT. It is planned to have been finished by the end of May 2018.
WHAT COMES NEXT?
The winner of contest for scheme designs of the reconstruction of civil location “Swan’s Lake”, a young and talented architecture Artur Aymetov has presented his work to the quests. His presentation aroused lots of different emotions. Some guests criticized it, the others supported the suggested project and expressed their admiration with the fact that contemporary Youth is active and wishes to stop the rot on the abandoned territory. At some point the discussion was ratcheted up another notch. But it is good as it means that people are not indifferent! And there will be a result!
Lots of topical issues were aroused during the press-conference. E.g., the guests expressed their concerns as for the possibility of Swan’s Lake “liberation” after the reconstruction. Responding to this, Deputy of Kherson City Council Olena Mazur officially informed: “The Lake will stay the communal property of the city.”
Also, lots of guesses were concerned about the fact that Swan’s Lake could get neighbor buildings flooded, to which Valerii Borzhkov told: “From technical point of view, I will tell you as a person that has built not one building in Kherson, there is nothing difficult in it. All insinuations as for the fact that it (the Lake) begins to run is absurd. We live in XXI Century with modern technologies. For example, there are hectares of pools and ponds in Turkey, that do not begin to run anywhere, and stay put. Everything can be resolved.”
The pressure group emphasized that they were eager not to use financing from the city budget or raise them from city folks for the fulfillment of the project, but they were planning to get interested the entrepreneurships, the inner partners and the international companies in it and invite investments by way of grants. As of today, Kherson enterprises, companies, plants are joining the team of “Lebedinka” (“Swan’s Lake”), that are ready to make their contribution into the project both by human resources and construction materials.
Also, the following people appeared before the guests: Oleksandr Knyga (Head of Kherson Regional Academic Music and Drama Theatre named after M. Kulish), Oleksandr Sperchun (an active member of the reconstruction project of Swan’s Lake), Viacheslav Iaremenko (Head of City Budget Commission), Ruslan Ivanovych Ruban (Deputy of City Council).
Valerii Borzhkov emphasized: “It is not a project behind which a group of publicity seekers is standing. Everyone can take part in it, preferably, with result-oriented advice, but not stories about its impossibility. There is a slogan “Just do it!” Then do it!”
The meeting was closed with positive speech of Gromykhin Viacheslav Mykhailovych (1979-2002 – Chief Architect of Kherson): “The shift is done in the right direction. I consider that this (the suggested project – author) should be moved forward. It should be just started out!”
Those present applauded loudly.
Now let’s get started!
The pressure group has high hopes that Kherson folks will join this good deal and by City Day in September 2018 (Kherson will celebrate 240s anniversary) we all will receive a wonderful present – Swan’s Lake renewed – a place, where everyone can have a lovely time, have a walk with a family, drink a cup of coffee next to water surface, look at works of young artists, skateboard, and, of course, feed the swans – as Swan’s Lake is not a swan’s one without them.
