What is the highest temperature fixed in Kherson? Or do you know how to play “the Red Hood”? How many songs can you recollect about rain, clouds, fog and frost? Will you be able to sing them in front of the jury and a hundred of audience? Will you be able to recognize a velocity measuring instrument?...

We, Kherson Women Union, dived into a high-minded atmosphere of a childish enthusiasm, competitiveness and creative competitions as well by supporting and attending the climate quest-game that took place on 12th April at the premises of Kherson Hydrometeorological College. We will tell you how it went on!

“Let’s save climate for our city!” – it is not just an appeal to next generation of Kherson folks, but an interesting and educational quest-game that was held for the second time by Civil Organization “Climate. Youth. Education” among the teams of comprehensive city institutions with the support of Kherson Hydrometeorological College, Kherson Women Union and friendly sponsor organizations. This year pupils of Kherson Comprehensive Schools #5, 17, 38, 54, Science-Educational Complex #48 and Kharkiv Ecology Hydrometeorological College of Odessa State University took part in it.

The Jury. Strict, but fair
The jury, smiling, kind and at the same time strict and fair, were represented by: Head of CO “Climate. Youth. Education” Nataliia Voloshenko, Chief Executive of Kherson Regional Center of Hydrometeorology Iurii Kiriiak, Chief Executive of Kherson Planetarium named after Iu. Gagarin Olga Khramtsova, Head of Kherson Women Union Iryna Nikolaieva, Head of Contact Zoo “Strana ENOTiIA” Kateryna Berezhna.

But it is not an easy task to be a jury. Especially in such kind of quest. As the winner should be selected having calculated the received score from special stations-stops and score from music competitions both between contestants and support teams. Everyone, even viewers, could take part in a competition by performing own singer’s and declaimer’s talents and receive a present from sponsors.

There was “a moment of shame” before the announcement of the results – the jury members stated that three teams lost their competitive marks for environmental disturbance – running through square’s lawns. As Iurii Kiriiak pointed out, “One cannot sprout wings and harm nature at one and the same time”.

All competitors and audience accepted the punishment as righteous.

Quest-game

Every team that this year decided to stand out for not only the title, but color as well – Yellows, Reds, Blues, Greens, Oranges, Blacks – received an envelope at the start in which the whole itinerary of quest was given.

Probably, on the occasion of Aviation and Cosmonautics Day that is held in Ukraine on 12th April in particular, the organizers added to already existing 5 traditional meteorologic, hydrologic, agro-meteorologic, aviation-meteorologic station-stops one more post – Planetarium (factitious).

The participants of the quest were to reach the posts and perform the tasks set as quick as it was possible. Boys and girls draw conventional Solar System, specified the “rating” of the biggest basins of Kherson Region, gave the correct title and specified the assignment of special meteorologic tools…

But children are always children. Each time I tried to take a photo of the most interesting moments and there was a breathless team running next to me, I asked, “Where are you running?”- “It doesn’t matter, the most important is to run!”

Awarding and winners

Needless to say, the most anxious and most important moment of any contest – winners’ announcement and their awarding! The victory in quest-game “Let’s save the climate of our city!” 2018 won the team of Reds – students of I-II years of studies of Kherson Hydrometeorologic College! Congratulations!

And, in general, all the participants walked their itineraries and showed profound knowledge and skills in the sphere of sciences about the Earth. Neither of the teams was left without sponsors’ presents. The organizers prepared tickets to Kherson Planetarium, Contact Zoo, pictures and stationery sets.

The most active fans, declaimers and singers received presents as well – sweet and memorable!

We would like to thank the organizing team, teams of participants and fans for the awesome go-aheadism and environmental education of the youngest generation of Kherson citizens. As every motto announced by the teams at the beginning of the event was intelligent and mature, and what was the most important – from the bottom of the heart:

“The way you live – so the air you inspire and water you drink”,

“We would like to be proud of the streets of home city!”

“Let’s save Kherson clean for the upcoming generations!”
